Why a Specialist PRP Clinic Doesn’t Start with PRP

We specialise in PRP.

But we never start with PRP.

We start with you.

Over the past few days, six new people have come to Growth Factor Hair Clinic hoping PRP might help their hair.

Two were men with thinning hair and receding hairlines. They were excellent candidates for PRP and are now booked to begin treatment.

Another had a hair transplant in Turkey two weeks earlier. As recommended by his surgeon, he’ll begin a course of PRP in a fortnight’s time.

One woman may well benefit from PRP, but not yet. We’ll investigate possible contributing factors with blood tests, consider hormonal treatment where appropriate and discuss whether TrichoTest might help guide her care.

Another woman had long-standing frontal fibrosing alopecia. Sadly, PRP cannot recover follicles that have already been lost. We were still able to help by offering emotional support through our psychologist and introducing her to a trusted specialist hairdresser.

The final patient had very advanced hair loss. He had already been declined a hair transplant because there wasn’t enough donor hair. PRP couldn’t realistically achieve what he was hoping for, so we discussed alternatives including scalp micropigmentation and hair systems.

Six people.

Six consultations.

Six different plans.

Why?

Because although we specialise in PRP,

we never start with PRP.

We start with you.

Many people understandably assume that booking a consultation at a specialist PRP clinic means the consultation is really about one question:

“When can I have PRP?”

But that’s not the question I’m trying to answer.

The question I’m trying to answer is much more important.

“What’s the best way to help you?”

Sometimes the answer is PRP.

Sometimes it’s PRP- but only after we’ve addressed other factors first.

Sometimes another treatment is likely to help you more.

I believe that’s exactly how a specialist PRP clinic should work.

PRP is one of the most fascinating treatments I’ve ever worked with. It harnesses your own biology, using growth factors and other biological signals involved in healing and tissue repair.

In the right patient, with the right condition, it can make a very significant difference.

But it isn’t a magic wand.

The most important part of PRP happens long before the first injection.

It starts by understanding why you’re losing your hair. Can PRP help your condition?

We look at your trichoscopy, your general health, medications, nutrition, medical history and emotional wellbeing. We discuss your goals and make sure they’re realistic.

Only then can we decide whether PRP deserves a place in your treatment plan.

This philosophy is reflected in the framework we use throughout the clinic.

We begin by revealing the causes of your hair loss as accurately as possible.

We then respond by addressing underlying causes where possible and optimising your health where appropriate.

Only then do we restore, using treatments such as PRP when they’re genuinely the right choice.

Finally, we help you retain your results with a long-term maintenance plan.

Everything builds towards giving PRP the best possible chance of success.

People sometimes ask me whether it’s difficult telling someone that I don’t think PRP is the right treatment for them.

The answer is yes.

Nobody enjoys disappointing people.

But every recommendation I make has to satisfy two things.

My integrity.

Your trust.

If I were to recommend a treatment I didn’t genuinely believe was the best next step for you, I would lose them both.

I’d much rather recommend the treatment, investigation or healthcare professional that’s genuinely right for you.

Because that’s exactly what I’d want if our roles were reversed.

If you’ve read my other articles about which hair loss conditions are most likely to respond to PRP, or how your general health can influence your results, you’ll know that I’ve always believed successful PRP starts long before the centrifuge starts spinning.

Whether your journey leads to PRP here at Growth Factor Hair Clinic, or somewhere else for a completely different treatment, my commitment to you remains exactly the same.

As one hair loss sufferer to another, I will always guide you honestly and try to help you.

Because the centre of Growth Factor Care isn’t PRP.

It’s you.
